Imagine you are trapped in a cave and no one knows you’re there. This is the situation in the book 24 Hours In Nowhere by Dusti Bowling. Gus was abandoned by her father in a little town called Nowhere with her grandmother years ago.  The town of Nowhere revolves around a mine named, Dead Frenchman Mine, that has rumored gold inside. The town bully Bo threatens to make Gus eat the dangerous jumping cholla cactus if Rossi, a great motorcycle rider, does not give him her motorcycle. So Rossi does give it to him to save Gus. Seeking to make things right, Gus goes to Bo to ask what he would have to do to get the motorcycle back. Bo tells him to bring him gold from Dead Frenchmen Mine! When Gus goes into the mine Jessie, his childhood friend, Rossi, and Mathew, Bo’s sidekick go into the mine too. Then something terrible happens, the mine collapses! Trapped by tons of rock and soil blocking their exit, the group discovers a secret which is that the mountain is hollow. Hoping for a way out they head into the mountain. They argue furiously and fumble in the dark breaking an old compass which has a map of the cave in it. They see an exit but they also see an area marked on the map that says Abe’s nose. They decide to go there in search of the gold. On the way there they encounter a mountain lion and get stuck on a rock. Will they ever find the gold? Will they ever escape?
